Just after 9pm last night Friday 26 April Rescue Care paramedics were called to a serious head on collision on Mt Batten Drive just after Battersea Avenue in Resevoir Hills.
On arrival paramedics found that two vehicles had collided head on after negotiating a sharp bend. Paramedics found three people from both vehicles had sustained serious injuries. One patient was entrapped in the vehicle and the Jaws of life were used to free them. Advanced Life Support intervention was required to stabilized the injured. Once the patients were stabilized they were all carefully extricated from the wreckage using specialized equipment. The patients were then loaded into ambulances and taken to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required.
It is unclear what caused the collision however it is suspected that one of the drivers veered into oncoming traffic. SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
Mt Batten Drive was closed whilst emergency personal worked to treat the injured. This affected traffic severely.
