A collision in Farramere leaves boy (8) with severe injuries

A collision took place on Main Road in Farramere, Benoni, at around 7:45 this morning, leaving three patients with various injuries.

An emergency vehicle was allegedly on the way to an emergency when near the intersection of Bayley street, it collided with a civilian vehicle. In the Toyota Yaris was a mom and her eight year old son who was on his way to school. The collision cause the Yaris to roll and it landed at the side of the road on its roof.

When paramedics arrived, they found the young boy, in his school uniform, lying outside of the vehicle on the ground. It is not clear as yet as to whether he had been ejected or had been assisted out of the wreckage.

The boy had suffered broken bones in his face, as well as a broken leg and he received immediate treatment by paramedics and was transported to hospital by ambulance. His mom had suffered moderate injuries and both patients were taken to the Glynnwood hospital for care.

One of the crew from the emergency vehicle had suffered moderate injuries and they too were taken to hospital, the second crew member did not need further medical care and remained at the scene.

Investigations into the crash will be conducted by local authorities.
