ER24 Ladysmith asked to Give Telephonic Advice On Puppy Delivery

ER24 Ladysmith crews were on their way to Durban with an inter-hospital transfer last night when they received a strange call for help via the operations cellphone.

Eunice’s French poodle, Velvet was having puppies and one of the puppies had gotten stuck during the delivery. She then phoned ER24 and asked for advice.

Paramedic Peter Gumil took the call and calmly gave some advice as to what to do and Eunice was able to assist the puppy to be delivered. The puppy was born and everything turned out for the best. At the end of the labour, Velvet had managed to deliver 4 puppies. Two male and two female puppies.

This is a first for the ER24 team, let alone over a telephone. Paramedic Peter had his crew, Wilma, had gone through today to go and visit the puppies they helped to ‘save’.

Well done to the team and we wish the puppies and owner of the new bundle all the best.

Derrick Banks, ER24
