Netcare 911 paramedics responded to an accident at the intersection of Ring Road and Blackwood Street in Drie Riviere, Vereeniging this morning after 08h00.
Upon their arrival on scene they found that a heavy goods vehicle had a side-impact collision with a motor vehicle.
The sixty-year-old female driver of the motor vehicle was entrapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle. The woman was critically injured and paramedics rushed her to a nearby hospital for the urgent medical care that she required. Tragically the woman passed away at the hospital due to the extensive injuries she had sustained.
Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.
