A bakkie with five occupants has crashed off the road and landed in a storm water drain down the embankment. The bakkie was travelling along the Mr566 in the area of Nkanyezini Location in the outlying area of Pietermaritzburg when the driver appears to have lost control of the vehicle.
Paramedics arrived on scene to find that one of the patients had suffered a badly broken leg and due to the distance to the nearest hospital AER24 was called out. They stabilised the man on scene and he was then airlifted to Edendale hospital for further care.
The remaining four men were in a stable condition and were taken to hospital by ambulance for care of their minor to moderate injuries.
