Crisis Medical Senior Paramedic, Shaun Justine noticed thick black smoke coming from the distance near Ethekwini Hospital. He immediately sensed something was very wrong and wasted no time following the smoke.
Once he arrived at the source, Shaun found a shack settlement engulfed in flames. Bystanders rushed over to inform him that 2 children were missing. Without thinking, he immediately began searching for the 4 children. Being a qualified rescue firefighter, Shaun knew where he should begin the search. With the raging fire encroaching, Shaun found the 2 children and immediately evacuated them to a place of safety to be reunited with their parents. Luckily, they escaped any injury.
During the frantic rescue, Crisis Medical back up teams arrived and assisted in evacuating 100 people from the settlement while Ethekwini Fire battled the blaze.
