Two men have been killed in two separate accidents that took place around Worcester in the early hours of this morning.
At around 4am, paramedics were called to Robertson road where a man had broken down in his car. A security van stopped to assist the stranded driver, and as they were standing at the side of the road, a BMW came past crashing into the security bakkie.
The bakkie crashed into the driver of the broken down vehicle leaving him with fatal injuries while the security guard was left with moderate injuries. The driver of the BMW suffered critical injuries as a result of the crash and both patients were taken to nearby hospitals for further care.
Shortly after this collision, paramedics were called to the scene of a truck that had overturned on the N1 at Townsriver.
The truck was carrying a load of wine en route from Johannesburg when the vehicle overturned for some unknown reason. The truck lay on its side in the road and paramedics found the driver to have suffered serious injuries. A woman and her baby, who were occupants of the truck suffered moderate injuries and the three patients were taken to hospital by ambulance. They remained in a stable condition en route.
Another man was found on the scene but it is not clear as to whether he too had been an occupant of the truck or as to whether he was a pedestrian. He had suffered fatal injuries and the local Department of Health EMS declared him dead on scene.
Both of these incidents are being investigated by local authorities.
