A truck carrying construction workers rolled while travelling in the Nkwabeni location near Edendale in Pietermaritzburg this morning leaving one man with fatal injuries and five others with minor injuries.
A witness explained that the truck was travelling around a bend when it appeared that it then went onto two wheels and proceeded to roll through a fence and into a yard where it then came to rest back on its wheels. The men sitting at the back of the vehicle were flung off and one of them, a 28 year old, had suffered most severe injuries of them all.
Paramedics arrived and had to initiate resuscitation efforts but they were unable to revive the young man and he was declared dead on scene. The remaining five men had luckily suffered only minor injuries in the form of scrapes and bruises and they were treated on scene before being taken to hospital by ambulance.
The local police who attended the scene will determine the details leading to the cause of this fatal collision.
