ORLANDO – A young man believed to be in his late teens to early twenties was killed yesterday evening when he fell under the wheels of a train near the Mzimhlope train station in Orlando, Soweto.
The details of what had happened is still sketchy as bystanders had different versions of the incident.
Paramedics from ER24 found the man being attended to by local medical personnel that managed to free him from underneath the train. On further assessment they found that he was in a critical condition and sustained multiple amputations. Paramedics placed the man on life support and treated his wounds on the scene before they could rush him of to a nearby hospital.
While he was being rushed through to hospital his condition deteriorated and paramedics initiated CPR. They continued CPR into the casualty of the hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries doctors declared him dead.
It is understood that his friend was also present during the incident and contacted ER24 for assistance. However, when paramedics arrived on the scene, the man was already taken by police for questioning.
The exact circumstances regarding the incident will be investigated.
