In the early hours of Saturday morning, paramedics and the Fire and Rescue team were called to Banfield road in Industria in Roodepoort where a number of informal houses had caught alight.
Upon arrival on scene they found that a number of homes were well alight and 100’s of people were scattered around and running from the blaze. One patient was found to have sustained severe burns to the entire surface of their body and the local provincial team transported the patient to a nearby hospital for care.
At least four other patients were treated for various injuries including smoke inhalation – but the devastation left by the fire was much more severe.
