Two people sustained serious injuries while three others sustained minor to moderate injuries after a collision between a bakkie and a light motor vehicle occurred on Dinkleman Road in New Germany yesterday afternoon.
ER24 KZN Highway team arrived on the scene and found the two vehicles in the middle of the road which had been closed to traffic by metro police. Paramedics assessed the scene and found that one person was trapped. The passenger of the car was seated up against the Armco barrier and covered in blood. Three occupants from the bakkie were found lying in the centre medium.
The driver of the light motor vehicle had a suspected broken leg and possible spinal injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient while the Fire Department used the jaws-of-life to help free the man from the wreckage.
The passenger sustained a head injury and several lacerations. The three patients from the bakkie sustained minor to moderated injuries.
All patients were stabilised on scene and transported to various hospitals in the area for further medical care.
The local law enforcement authorities would investigate the accident further.
