Boy 10 drowns near Margate

A tragic combination of events lead to a ten-year-old –boy losing his life in the Gamalake area near Margate this morning. Reports indicate that the boy was caught in the flooding river and then washed into a storm water drain.

Netcare 911 paramedics and the S A P S search and rescue were called to the scene at around 09h00 and within a few minutes after their arrival the skilled rescue divers had pulled the boy from the water filled drain. Awaiting Netcare 911 paramedics fervently resuscitated the boy for more than an hour at the side of the river, tragically despite all efforts the child was declared dead on scene.
