Twenty people were injured, one seriously so, after a taxi rolled on the N1 in Hammanskraal last night at around 19h30. Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.
Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the commuters had been ejected from the vehicle as it was rolling down the roadway; the highway was covered for several meters with accident debris and luggage.
After triaging the injured it was found that an eighteen- month –old-boy had sustained life threatening injuries, while nineteen others sustained serious injuries, the baby was placed on a ventilator and then airlifted to an area hospital for the care that he required. The seriously injured patients were transported to various hospitals in the area for further medical treatment.
