A motor bike driver has sustained critical injuries after colliding into five cars on the M19 Durban bound before the N2 bridge in Durban yesterday afternoon around 5pm.
Rescue Care paramedics arrived on the scene to find the critically injured biker in the lying in the roadway with his bike badly damaged in pieces. Paramedics begun stabilizing the biker and immediately called for more ambulances and Rescue Care’s Advanced Life Support unit as the biker needed specialist treatment. A further nine people from the five vehicles had all sustained various injuries as well. Once more ambulances had arrived paramedics began loading the injured into ambulances. The critically injured biker was stabilized on the scene before being transported to St Augustine’s Hospital for the emergency treatment that he required. The remaining nine patients were also transported by Rescue Care to various Durban hospitals for further care.
It is unclear what caused the pile up however the necessary authorities were in attendance and will be investigating further.
Traffic was severely affected as the entire Durban bound carriageway was closed whilst emergency personal worked to clear the scene.
