Life guards save seventeen year old swept away by rip current at Umgababa

A seventeen-year-old male is in a serious but stable condition after a near drowning incident at the Umgababa beach on the Natal south coast this morning. Reports from the scene indicate that the bather was swept out in a rip current and was fortunate that life guards got to him in time.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man on the beach exhausted displaying near drowning symptoms. After he was stabilised on scene they transported him to a local hospital for the care that they required.
