Earlier this afternoon paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services and several private ambulance services responded to St Michaels beach on the KZN South Coast, after reports from life guards at the beach of a child that had drowned.
The paramedics arrived on scene at the tidal pool at main beach at St Michaels to find life guards preforming CPR on a lifeless child of about eight years old, who they had rescued from the pool. The life guards handed over to the team of paramedics who worked frantically together to provide the Advanced medical care that the child required.
Fortunately the child responded to the treatment provided and her heart started beating again. The paramedics continued to monitor her closely as they recheck vital signs and prepared the necessary stretchers and equipment to transport her to hospital. The patient was then transported by an Advanced Life Support paramedic from a local private ambulance service to a private hospital in the area. Where she was handed over to the hospital’s medical staff for continued care.
I would like to thank all the life guards who rescued the child from the water and started treatment and to the off duty Doctor who has on holiday and at the beach who assisted the life guards and paramedics.
