One man is in a critical condition after being hit by a car at the Republic and Malibongwe Roads intersection in Randburg, Johannesburg early this morning.
ER24 paramedics arrived at the intersection where a small group of bystanders was offering assistance to the pedestrian.
Paramedics assessed the man, finding that he had sustained severe trauma to his head and chest. Advance life support was performed on the patient to stabilise him before he was immolilised on a spine board.
The AER24 medical helicopter was called in to transport the patient to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
Witnesses on scene stated that the man had apparently been collecting rubbish with his trolley when a car collided with him as he stepped into the road.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
