One man was injured when a vehicle collided into a stationary vehicle on the R27 near Duinefontein, Cape Town early this morning. When ER24 paramedics arrived on the busy road they discovered the two wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road.
The driver of the stationary vehicle was trapped within his vehicle after the impact. Rescue services personnel immediately began extrication, using jaws-of-life equipment to remove the door to allow ER24 paramedics access to the patient.
Assessments showed that the patient sustained moderate injuries including suspected neck fractures. Paramedics treated the man for his injuries before placing him on a spine board. Shortly afterwards, he was transported to Mediclinic Milnerton Hospital for further medical treatment.
The driver in the other vehicle did not sustain any injuries. The patient later told paramedics that he had apparently pulled his vehicle over to the right hand lane after his vehicle broke down. He was busy calling for help when the mobile vehicle drove into the back of his.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
