A man is in a critical condition this morning after two trucks collided on the N1 near Edenburg, Free State.
ER24 paramedics arrived on scene to find a large goods truck lying on its side in the field. The second truck was pulled over in the emergency lane a short distance away.
Jaws-of-life equipment was used to free two trapped occupants from the overturned truck.
One man sustained critical injuries while the other escaped with only minor injuries.
The critically injured man was treated and immediately transported by the ER24 helicopter to Pelonomi Hospital for further medical care. The second patient was treated and thereafter transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further observation.
The driver of the second truck fortunately did not sustain any injuries.
The cause of the collision is not yet known and local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
