Three people were injured this morning when two vehicles collided head-on on the R500 5km outside of Fochville, Gauteng.
When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found the two mangled vehicles lying on the side of the road 80 meters apart.
A man in his 30s lay trapped inside of his vehicle in a critical condition. Provincial services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment in an hour long rescue to free to patient.
Once the patient was freed, he was provided with advanced life support and thereafter transported to Leslie Williams Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Two other women were found lying outside their vehicle, both in a moderate condition.
Paramedics treated the patients and transported them to a nearby hospital for further observation.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
