A man has tragically lost his life following a rear-end collision on the N3 in Shongweni this morning in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
Emergency services arrived on scene and found that one heavy goods vehicle crashed into the back of another heavy goods vehicle resulting in the occupant of the heavy goods vehicle tragically losing his life.
While services were on scene another heavy goods vehicle crashed into the primary accident scene which involved emergency services vehicles and then proceeded to crash through the centre median and collided with vehicles travelling in the opposite direction.
Upon assessment of the all the occupants of the vehicles it was found that three people sustained serious injuries and three people sustained moderate injuries.
A few of the emergency personnel also sustained injuries.
All the injured patients were treated on scene and transported to various hospitals for further medical care.
Exact details surrounding the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
