One person was killed and twelve others were left with multiple injuries after a bakkie overturned on the N14 near the Petro port in Randburg this morning.
Shortly before 0600, ER24 paramedics were called to the scene where they found people scattered across the highway. It appears as if majority of the patients were sitting on the back of the bakkie when it overturned. One person was found with fatal injuries and declared dead on the scene; another sustained critical injuries and required Advanced Life Support intervention.
The critically injured patient was later airlifted by ER24’s emergency helicopter to the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital.
The injured were rushed off to various hospitals in the area for further medical treatment.
The remainder of the patients sustained injuries ranging from fractures to scrapes and bruises.
At this stage it is not clear if a second vehicle was involved in the incident. The incident was handed over to the local authorities for investigation.
