A woman in her 30s was killed and a man in his 30s critically injured this morning after two cars collided head-on on the Khutsong Road in Cartonville, Gauteng.
When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found the two mangled vehicles in the middle of the road. The two drivers lay in the middle of the road next to their vehicles. Both drivers were in a critical condition.
It was apparent to paramedics that both drivers had been pulled from their vehicles by members of the public.
Paramedics began their treatment providing the patients with advanced life support to stabilise their vital signs.
Shortly after treatment began, the male patient was airlifted by the AER24 helicopter to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
The female patient was transported by ambulance to Khutsong Hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately the patient died upon arrival at hospital.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
