Vehicle checks part of the Festive Season Safety Strategy by Buffalo City Metro’s Traffic Department

Police in the East London Cluster embarked on several operations during the 16 Days Of Activism Campaign For No Violence Against Women And Children in the Cluster. The East London Cluster comprises of Duncan Village, Beacon Bay, Gonubie, East London Buffalo Flats, Kidd’s Beach and Chalumna police stations.

During these operations female police officers played an important role in making themselves visible to the community by carrying over the plight of the campaign.Police also distribute pamphlets on prevention of child abuse, reporting of sexual offences and many more awareness pamphlets.

The roadblocks were conducted on the 09th and 10th December 2014. Police female officers had their hands full as some of the male drivers were resisting the actions by the female officers, but fortunately male officers were close to give a helping hand.

During the operation in which the Buffalo City Metro’s Traffic Department assisted and they managed to arrest one suspect for drunken driving, one for driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, issued 46 warrants of arrest with a value of R64 150-00 in fines which was to be paid, checking for expired license disks and the wearing of seatbelts.

Police wish to send out a stern warning that the festive season is almost in full swing and lots of people would be on leave. Use the holiday period responsibly and think of those around you and consider each other. Police wish to ensure the community that policing will still continue and that there would be an increase in visible policing. The public is also requested to bear with police during their operations over this period as it ensures the safety of all.
