Seven year old in near drowning incident

A 7-year-old child is in a stable condition following a near drowning incident just outside Edendale, Pietermaritzburg earlier today

It is understood the child was found by his younger brother under water in a river about 100 metres away from their house. His family was alerted and the boy was taken out of the water. The family actively rewarmed him and paramedics were contacted to assist.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they found the boy on the floor in a house with several family members around him.
Paramedics assessed the boy and found that he was slightly lethargic but fully conscious. His vitals were fine and he was in a stable condition. He was transported to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg.
