A 37 year old lady has been killed by electrocution while fetching water

At around 07h30 this morning paramedics from the Stanger KZN Emergency Medical Services base responded to an incident in Intshawini, near Stanger, in the Ilembe district of KZN, where a woman has died.

The 37 year old woman was walking bare foot, with a bucket of water on her head. It is then alleged that the bucket touched a low hanging live wire being used to conduct electricity, which caused water to spill out the bucket, causing sparks. It is alleged that the woman was electrocuted.

A man, who saw what was happening tried to come to her aid but was also injured. Sadly the woman didn’t survive the incident and the 39 year old man was in a serious condition when assessed by paramedics.

The scene was cordoned off. The municipal electricity department and police were also on scene. Police are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

People are urged to be vigilant of unsafe or illegal connections and if found to be cautious around them before reporting them to authorities. Do not tamper with electricity connections or power sources as illegal connections are dangerous and do have fatal consequences.
