Man critical after being trapped under car at petrol station

A man is in a critical condition after his leg was crushed and trapped beneath his vehicle at a petrol station on Mcwellen Road in Vanderbijlpark.

When ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene, they found a light motor parked in the petrol station. A group of bystanders had gathered around the vehicle.

On assessment, paramedics discovered a male patient lying on the floor with his leg trapped between the wheel and fender of the vehicle. It is believed that the mans wife had accidently pressed the accelerator, lurching the vehicle forward and trapping the man.

Paramedics began their treatment of the patient, providing him with advanced life support while rescue services used the jaws-of-life to free his trapped limb.

Once freed, the man was transported to Mediclinic Emfuleni for further medical treatment.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
