Scores of commuters making their way home from work have been left injured after there were three accidents involving taxis in two hours in the Pinetown area yesterday afternoon.
Around 4pm Rescue Care and Meditech paramedics were called to the corner of Shepstone Road and Otto Volek Road in New Germany for a serious accident. On arrival paramedics found that two taxis and a car had collided in the junction before one of the taxis had overturned coming to rest on its roof. Fourteen people had sustained various injuries with one lady having sustained serious injuries. More ambulances were called to assist in transporting the injured to hospital. Once more ambulances had arrived and all of the injured had been stabilized the injured were transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required.
Whilst paramedics were on the above scene yet another accident occurred at the corner of Crompton Street and Manchester Road in New Germany. Rescue Care paramedics responded to scene and found that three people had sustained minor injuries. Once stabilized on scene they were transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that they required.
Just as Rescue Care and Meditech paramedics were finishing with these injured patients at hospitals they received yet a third call for a taxi that had rolled on the M1 near Marianhill SAPS. Paramedics responded and found that sixteen people had sustained various injuries. Once all of the injured had been stabilized they were then transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required.
SAPS and Metro Police were in attendance at all three collisions and will be investigating the cause of these collisions.
