One person died and one sustained critical injuries when they were ejected from a taxi on the R74 near Bergville in KwaZulu-Natal earlier today.
A taxi, with 15 people, rolled down an embankment. It is understood the driver lost control of the vehicle after a tyre burst.
The taxi rolled several metres down the embankment.
When ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene, they found people lying all over the scene including in a ravine close by.
The driver of the taxi was one of those initially ejected from the vehicle. He was provided with advanced life support on scene. Unfortunately the second person who was ejected had succumbed to their injuries.
13 others, some of whom were also ejected when the taxi rolled, were treated on scene for minor to moderate injuries.
Patients were transported to the Ladysmith Provincial Hospital.
Local authorities were on scene.
