Two arrested on drug-trafficking and cultivation of dagga in Constantia

Two men are facing charges of drug-trafficking and cultivation of dagga in Constantia where 109 dagga plants and trees were found. On Wednesday(2015-02-11) at 12:00 Diep River SAPS and Wynberg Cluster members followed up information regarding a house in Ou Wingerdpad, Constantia.

According to information, there was a plantation of cannabis (dagga) on the property. When the team arrived and surrounded the house, they entered the property and discovered an organised cannabis plantation in a separate section of the garden. Police Officers counted 109 trees and plants between the height of 50cm to 1.8m.

There were 64 smaller plants and a number of seedlings. Two suspects aged 21 and 24 were arrested on the site.

The owner of the house is aware of the situation and is still at large. Forensic Department officers and narcotics specialists were on the scene. All the plants and trees were removed by SAPS and handed in as evidence. A case of drug trafficking and cultivation of dagga were opened at the Diep River Police Station.

Wynberg Cluster Commander, Brig Riaan Booysen, commended the police officers on their good work. The suspects will be charged and processed and appear in court on Friday, 13 February 2015. The street value of the cannabis (dagga) is still to be determined.
