A man has died in a crash in Chatsworth

A man has died in a crash, after his car left the road, crashed through a fence, hit a wall and then landed on an awning adjacent to a house in Chatsworth.

The cause of the crash and the circumstances preceding the crash are at this stage not known and are being investigated by the police. The incident took place on Arena Place Drive.

Paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services and rescuers from the eThekwini Fire Department and Police Search and Rescue arrived at the house before 5 am this morning, to find the car precariously resting in the air on the now smashed metal awning. The rescuers were unable to assess the car due to its unstable position. A crane had to be used to lift the car off the awning onto the ground.

The driver was the only person injured and the people who had been sleeping in the house were uninjured. There was little other damage to the house, other than the smashed awning.
