A six year-old school boy is in a critical condition after apparently falling two storeys at a school in Tongaat this morning.
Paramedics from a private ambulance service initially responded the child and, realizing the critical condition the child was in, requested the assistance of the Department of Health’s EMS helicopter. They continued to stabilize the child while the helicopter flew to the school.
The helicopter landed on one of the sports grounds at the school and the patient was handed over to the flight paramedics. The child has been airlifted to King Edward VIII hospital in Durban and has been handed over to a trauma team for continued medical management.
The circumstances resulting in the child falling are unknown at this stage and are being investigated.
