A woman in her 20s is in a serious condition after a collision between two vehicles on Walter Sisulu Drive in Bloemfontein early this morning.
ER24 paramedics from the Bloemfontein bases, along with Metro services, arrived on scene and found a light motor vehicle lying on its side on the side of the road. Another vehicle lay a few metres away parked on the side of the road.
On assessment, paramedics discovered that a woman in her 20s lay trapped and in a serious condition in the vehicle that lay on its side.
Metro services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to cut the roof of the vehicle off to free the woman before treatment could continue. Once freed, she was treated by advanced life support paramedics and thereafter transported to Mediclinic Bloemfontein for further treatment.
Fortunately, no-one from the second vehicle had sustained any injuries.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
