Man killed in construction accident underneath a large construction drill

A man in his 30s was killed this afternoon in a construction accident at the Viking and Jan Smut Road intersection in Pinelands, Western Cape.

ER24 paramedics, along with Life Healthcare and Metro services, arrived on the scene and found a group of men gathered around a large manhole on the pavement.

On inspection, paramedics discovered a man at the hole, stuck underneath a large construction drill. Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained fatal injuries in the incident. Unfortunately nothing more could be done for the patient.

It is understood that the workers clothing had become caught in the machinery, crushing him to death.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
