The fight against drug trafficking gained success when Mahikeng Organised Crime Unit of the Hawks, successfully apprehended seven suspects on Wednesday, 12 March 2015 in various parts of the province.
The apprehension came after a ten month operation that investigated organised crime syndicate specialising in drug dealing and trafficking. Various drugs such as 504 grams of CAT, Crystal meth, cocaine and 260 mandrax and ecstacy tablets with estimated street value of R141 000,00 were seized. It was during the operation that three cars to the value of R335 000,00 were also confiscated.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects received the drugs from Hillbrow and would then be distributed to dealers for supply in their operational areas. All suspects are expected to appear at various Magistrates Courts in Mmabatho, Lichtenburg and Vryburg today and on Monday, 16 March 2015 where they will be facing charges of dealing in drugs and trafficking.
