A woman died and three people were injured following an accident on the N14 near the N1 in Monavoni, Centurion this afternoon.
Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that two motor vehicles, a light delivery vehicle and a heavy goods vehicle were involved in the accident. Accident debris were scattered all over the roadway.
Exact detail surrounding the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation. Reports from the scene however indicate that a motor vehicle rear-ended the heavy goods vehicle, which resulted in the motor vehicle crashing against the light delivery vehicle and other motor vehicle. The motor vehicle and light delivery vehicle then overturned. The motor vehicle came to a standstill on its roof while the light delivery vehicle came to a standstill on its side.
Upon assessment of all the occupants of the vehicles, paramedics found that a woman travelling in the light delivery vehicle, tragically lost her life during the accident. A man and seven-year-old boy sustained serious injuries while a five-year-old girl sustained critical injuries during the accident.
The man and young boy were treated at the scene and transported to hospital for further medical care. A medical helicopter was activated to airlift the critically injured girl to hospital for the urgent medical care that she required. All four people were occupants from the light delivery vehicle.
Occupants from the other vehicles were not injured during the accident.
Traffic is severely affected and will remain affected until authorities have completed their investigation and the vehicles have been recovered.
