Man critical after mountain rescue

A 28-year-old man is in a critical condition this afternoon after his vehicle drove off Monkey Mountain, 8km from Fochville in Gauteng.

When ER24 paramedics and rescue services arrived on scene, they found that the light motor vehicle had come to rest against some trees and rocks some distance away from the road.

After paramedics and rescue services had made their way down the embankment, they found the driver lying trapped in a critical condition.

Rescue services stabilised the vehicle while paramedics carefully removed the patient from the vehicle. Once freed, paramedics treated the patient and provided him with advanced life support.

Once treated, the patient was airlifted by the ER24 helicopter to Baragwanath Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The cause of the collision is being investigated by local authorities.
