Father and two daughters killed in Leratong collision

A father and his two daughters were killed during the early hours of this morning when two vehicles collided head on with each other on the R41 near the Leratong crossing west of Johannesburg.

Shortly after 03:00 paramedics from ER24 were dispatched to the scene where they found two vehicles severely mangled. On further inspection they found that an adult and two children, believed to be under the age of ten, were killed in the collision. All three of them were still trapped in their vehicle.

The driver, believed to be the only occupant of the other vehicle, was found hanging from the driver’s door of his vehicle. He was in a critical condition. Paramedics extricated him from the vehicle and treated him for multiple injuries. After stabilisation, he was rushed off to Leratong hospital for further treatment.

The Watch Tower Society Fire and Rescue services extricated the father and his two daughters from the vehicle. They were all declared dead on the scene.

Although the exact circumstance of the collision is not yet known, it is understood from a bystander that one of the vehicles started drifting into oncoming traffic. The local authorities will investigate the exact cause of the collision.
