Crane accident leaves man critically injured

A man in his 50s is in a critical condition after the hook of a crane collided with him at a construction site in Naledi Industrial in Sasolburg.
When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found the patient lying on top of a container. The hook from the crane lay dangling from the side of the container.
Paramedics climbed on top of the container and assessed the patient, finding that he had sustained severe injuries to his head, chest and back.
Paramedics provided the patient with advanced life as well immobilising him to stabilise his condition.
Once treated, the patient was airlifted by the ER24 Helicopter to Mediclinic Sandton for urgent medical treatment.
It is understood that the man had been on top of the container when the crane cable had snapped, causing the hook to swing and collide with the patient.
