An accident on Jan Smuts Avenue in Saxonwold this morning left two people dead and sixty-four people injured.
Exact detail surrounding the cause of the collision and preceding events are still unclear and will remain the subject of a police investigation.
Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that two busses had collided head-on. Both vehicles’ front areas sustained severe damage and is tangled together.
Upon assessment of all sixty-six occupants, paramedics found that a male driver of one of the busses tragically lost his life during the crash. A further four people were found to have sustained critical injuries while the remaining passengers sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious.
The injured passengers were treated at the scene and transported to various hospitals for further medical care. The fire department are currently busy extricating three entrapped people from the bus and the injured patients will be transported to hospital once removed from the vehicle.
Tragically a woman that sustained critical injuries passed away shortly after arrival at the hospital.
The road has been completely closed off and traffic is being redirected.
