Eighteen people have been injured some seriously so after a collision on the M4 in both directions North bound and South bound near the Edwin Swales off ramp last night around 7pm.
Rescue Care paramedics responded to the initial call of a serious collision on the M4 South near Edwin Swales Drive, on their arrival they had found that two taxis had collided in the taxi lane in a rear end collision. Whilst they were assessing the scene on the opposite carriageway a bus collided with two taxis also in the taxi lane. Multiple people were injured and more resources were called to assist. A total of eighteen people had been injured with two suffering serious injuries. Once all of the injured had been stabilized on the scene they were transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required.
At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however it is alleged that a taxi had broken down on the south bound carriage way and this led up to a traffic build up. SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
