A head-on collision between two light motor vehicles this afternoon on Khan Road in Bombardier, Pietermaritzburg, has left one person injured.
When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, they found the two vehicles in the middle of the road. Both vehicles were completely smashed together.
On assessment, paramedics found that one woman in her 30s was found trapped inside her vehicle in a serious condition.
ER24 paramedics and fire services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the patient in a 20 minute operation.
Once freed, paramedics provided the patient with advanced life support interventions and thereafter transported her to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg for further treatment.
The driver of the second vehicle fortunately did not sustain any injuries.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
