Three people were left injured this morning after a bakkie and light motor vehicle collided on the R502 outside of Orkney in the North West.
Paramedics from the ER24 Potchefstroom branch arrived on scene and found both vehicles it the slow lane of the road. The front of the light motor vehicle had been completely smashed in the collision.
On assessment, paramedics found that a male patient lay trapped inside the light motor vehicle in a serious condition while two occupants from the bakkie had sustained minor injuries.
Fire services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the patient in a 15 minute operation.
Once freed, paramedics immobilised the patients and provided advanced life support treatment. The two other patients were treated for their minor injuries.
Once treated, all the patients were transported to Tshepong Hospital for further treatment.
The cause of the collision is being investigated by local authorities.
