Const Christopher Mathias (K9 unit), two suspects, Sgt John Sias (K9 unit) and R/Cst Elvis Mpona

It is alleged that on Monday, 01 June 2015 relatives of three of four children (aged 14 years) brought the four boys to Galeshewe police station and informed police that the children were playing with firearms at the John Daka Mine dumps in Galeshewe.

Members of the Kimberley K9 unit and the Flying Squad took the boys to the dump to investigate the allegation. Police found a hunting rifle. The boys alleged that about two weeks ago, while playing at the dumping site, they stumbled on a blanket and when they opened the blanket, they found six rifles wrapped inside. They took four rifles and when they went back the following day, there was none. While playing with the rifles, two men approached them and told them that the firearms belonged to them. They gave the boys R100 and took three of the rifles. One of the suspect’s was known to the teenagers.

Police visited the suspect’s house and the firearms were recovered at a relative’s house in the area. Three rifles, three magazines and seven rounds of ammunition was confiscated. In total four rifles were seized. Two men aged 29 and 31 years old were arrested and detained on charges of illegal possession of firearms and illegal possession of ammunition. They are expected to appear in court soon.
