One killed, seven injured in three vehicle collision in Hillcrest

One man was killed and seven others injured this morning after a bakkie collided with two light motor vehicles on the N3 near Richmond road in Hillcrest, KwaZulu Natal.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene and found the vehicles blocking one of the lanes of the bust road. The bakkie lay on its side while the two light motor vehicles were parked a few feet away.

On assessment of the vehicles, paramedics discovered the lifeless body of a male driver trapped inside his vehicle. Unfortunately the patient had already succumbed to his fatal injuries. Rescue services later used the jaws-of-life equipment to free his body.

The passenger of the same vehicle was found to have sustained serious injuries. Five other patients in the second vehicle had all sustained minor injuries while the lone occupant from the bakkie lay trapped in a critical condition.

Paramedics set out treating the patients for their injuries and providing the serious and critically injured patients with advanced life support interventions.

Once treated, all the patients were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
