30 injured in multiple car pile up in Durban on Friday afternoon

Thirty people have sustained various injuries after two taxis and four cars collided on the M4 South bound before the Bluff offramp on Friday afternoon around 12pm.

Rescue Care paramedics were called to the multiple vehicle pile up and found total chaos on arriving on the scene. Cars were scattered across the whole freeway and only one lane of traffic trickled past the scene. This made getting resources to the scene a absolute nightmare. Paramedics found multiple patients and immediately called for more ambulances to be sent to assist with transporting the injured. A total of thirty people had sustained injuries varying from minor to severe and were all stabilized on scene before being transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required.

Whilst paramedics were busy on the south bound carriageway another collision occurred on the North bound carriageway involving a car and a truck. Three people had sustained injuries and were also transported by ambulance to hospital.

At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further. Traffic was severely affected whilst emergency personal worked to clear the scene.
