Two workers were injured, one critically so, after the fell about three stories from scaffolding at a construction site in Bloemfontein this morning. Exact detail to the cause of the men falling and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.
Netcare 911 paramedics and the fire brigade arrived at the scene and found that one man had sustained life-threatening injuries while the other worker was in a serious condition. The patients landed in an area where it was required to use specialised rope rescue equipment and stretchers to lower them down to the ground level.
With the assistance of the specialised rescue instructors from the provincial services Mr Fleishman and Colbert, a specialised system was erected while paramedics worked tirelessly to stabilise the injured men. After the injured was lowered back to ground level, medics transported them to a nearby hospital under the constant care of an advance life support paramedic for the specialised care that they required.
