The Netcare 911 paramedics, their rescue team and members from the specialised rescue in Ballito got together at a construction site to make sure that they keep themselves at the top of their game when the need arise.
Under the Guidance of Konrad Jones the rescue officer from Netcare 911 and a rescue instructor paramedics Garry, Shaun Paul, and rescue technician Barry Chapman from the Ballito based voluntary specialised rescue team set up a scenario. Barry was dangled from the side of the construction site at the fourth floor level simulating that he had fallen and injured himself.
Paramedics and the rescue officer was hoisted to the top of the building and set up a staging area with medical equipment and a specialised stretcher. Konrad was then lowered with a crane to the patient. He then attached the patient to himself and the crane and hoisted him back to the paramedic crew.
Garry and Shaun stabilised Barry and then after he was secured in a “stokes” basket they attached it to the crane with a Helli hoist. After they attached themselves to the crane, they were hoisted off the building and lowered back the ground level.
