Two suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms at Ulundi

A joint operation by Ulundi members and Tactical Response Team yielded positive results when they arrested Robert Hadebe (44) and Sihle Mjoko (45) for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. They appeared in the Mahlabathini Magistrates Court yesterday, 14 July 2015, and were remanded in custody until 21 July 2015 for bail application.

On 13 July 2015, police were patrolling around Zondela area in Ulundi when they followed up information about illegal firearms in the area. The members proceeded to the identified homestead where they searched it and found four unlicensed .38 special revolvers. Two suspects were arrested and charged with the possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded members for the arrests and the recovery of illegal firearms in the area. “We appeal to the community members to continuously provide the police with information about unlicensed firearms in their areas. By doing so we will reduce the number of firearms circulating in the community,’ she said.
