Killarney fire leaves woman and cat in a serious condition

A woman and her pet cat have been transported to medical facilities following a fire on Fifth Avenue in Killarney this evening.

Netcare 911 paramedics, other services and members from the Rosebank Fire Department arrived at the scene and found that a part of a building had caught alight.

Members from the fire department entered the building and rescued a woman and her pet cat from the building. The woman verbalised that she noticed the smoke and went looking for her cat before trying to exit the building.

Fire department members immediately started to fight the blazing flames and the fire was extinguished in no time.

Upon assessment of the woman, paramedics found that she was in a serious condition and was transported to hospital for further medical care. The feline was transported to a medical facility for further care and smoke inhalation treatment as well.

Exact detail surrounding the cause of the fire and preceding events are still unclear and will remain the subject of an investigation.
